Michaelhouse’s Samir Dookie has been accorded a massive honour and recorded a remarkable achievement being named as one of nine young musicians who will perform with the Pretoria Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, 5 March, in the Afriforum Theatre in Pretoria.
He is one of only two pianists who will play at the concert, where he will perform the second movement of Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto.
Samir, who has previously won gold at the Talent Africa Nationals, said his love of music, in essence, began before he was born; his mother is a music teacher and, before his birth, she would play classical music to him by placing headphones on her tummy.
While he loves a wide range of music, his favourite is classical, Samir said, adding that his favourite composers are Lizst and Chopin.
