Official opening

The official opening of the new dorm, which has been named the Sas Nourse Dorm, was attended by his daughter Ann, his son-in-law Clive, grand-daughter Lea, among the invited guests.

Sas Nourse attended DHS as a schoolboy from 1932 to 1935. Later, he taught at the school from 1941 to 1944. He, then, returned to DHS in 1952 and taught until 1972.

During his time at the school, he also served as coach of the 1st XV from 1955 to 1967.

Guests at the opening of the Sas Nourse Dorm were taken on a tour of the new facility, and also treated to a musical performance from the DHS boys.

In September 1969, Nourse became the first Headmaster of Blackmore House when it was moved to its current location.

Jeremy Oddy, the Archivist of DHS, described him as a quietly spoken man, who was fair in matters of discipline. He further said Nourse, a respected science teacher, exuded an air of authority and wisdom, which brought him respect from the boys and staff alike.
