Clifton played host to 31 teams from nine schools on Wednesday evening for the school’s annual “You’re History” Quiz.
The overall honours went the way of Kearsney College, whose three teams all performed well to secure them the victory.
Their Grade 11 team – Matthew Lamplough, Daniel Bothma and Jack White – finished first in their category, while their Grade 10 line-up – Luca Sandri, Oliver Tubb and Stephen Robertson – ended in fourth. Their Grade 9 team – Connor van Heerden, Jason Denekamp and Thomas Blomfield – were third.
It’s the latest feather in the cap for Kearsney’s History Department. In late 2022, Connor van Heerden was joint first overall in the South African Junior History Olympiad. That, obviously, placed him among the top one percent nationally, for which he was rewarded with a Platinum Certificate.
Jason Denekamp, Joshua-Peter Clark and Oliver Tubb received Gold Certificates for placing among the top five percent in the country, and Thomas Blomfield was presented with a Silver Certificate for ending in the top 10 percent.
