Westville Boys’ High has more than a little interest in the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup, currently on the go in Pretoria, and running from 5-11 February.

Bongamusa Mngoma is in goal for South Africa, who are up against Australia, Argentina, Iran, the USA and the Czech Republic in pool play. On the other side of the draw are The Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Kazakhstan, Namibia and New Zealand.

Bongamusa, though, is not the sole Westville representative. The school’s Director of Hockey, Cameron Mackay is with the South African team as an assistant coach.

The event features the aforementioned 12 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams, including the hosts, South Africa, and Ukraine, among others.

It’s the first time in history that South Africa has hosted the FIH Indoor Hockey World Cup. Because of the impact of Covid-19, it has been five years since the previous edition of the event.
