Westville Interact Task Team's "Lunch Buddies" initiative.

3 February 2023

Westville Boys’ High’s Interact Task Team has hit the ground running as the new school year kicks into gear. This includes feeding school children and families in need of assistance through an initiative with the school’s feeding partner, El Gibbor’s Kitchen.

The “Lunch Buddies” initiative was launched in 2017 by old boy, Samir Kovajee and his Interact team. Six years on, the programme is still going strong.

Where school children are concerned, the Interact Task Team has recognised how important it is for learners to be fed, given the critical role that nutrition plays in the ability of pupils to focus on their work, instead of having to worry about where one’s next meal may come from.

Commitment

In ever more challenging times, millions of families in South Africa live below the poverty line, so the Westville Interact Task Team has committed itself to continuing the good work of the “Lunch Buddies”.

And, just to show that the work is not forgotten once the boys’ school days are done, the current Interact Task Team was this week joined by the programme’s founder, Samir Kovajee, and fellow old boys, Ashley Naidoo, Divyan Chetty and Samir Rugbeer, who helped to pack meals, while showing what true leadership entails, and how some commitments are long-term.
