Yaaseen Malani and Thaufiq Abramia did themselves and Maritzburg College proud by receiving eight distinctions each in the 2022 matric final examinations.

The highlights of the Maritzburg College matric class of 2022 included two learners, Yaaseen Malani and Thaufiq Abramia, who achieved eight distinctions in the final examinations, while Uwais Essa received seven distinctions.

A further four boys managed six distinctions. In total, 45 boys received three distinctions or more.

That number included Deputy Head Prefect, Minenhle Ngubo, who scored three distinctions, and was awarded the prestigious Allan Gray Orbis Fellowship, a huge feather in his cap.

According to the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation website: “We seek out young people who have the potential to change the world with their energy, curiosity and new ways of seeing and understanding the problems we face, and how to solve them.”

It adds: “The Foundation believes that entrepreneurially-minded individuals with ethical values and strong leadership skills hold the promise of change.”

College Headmaster, in a message on the Maritzburg College | Pietermaritzburg | Facebook page, wrote: “Superb effort and well done Minenhle. Fully deserved. We wish you all the very best for your studies.”

Tallying up the numbers, College boys recorded 319 subject distinctions, with a pass rate of 91.1 percent and 81.2 percent of the boys received a Bachelor’s Degree pass.
